Black Leopard

The leopard is the most widespread of all wild cats, ranging throughout Africa (with the exception of the Sahara desert).

It is found in virtually every habitat from tropical rainforest to desert and temperate forest and from sea level to more than 5,500 m in altitude.

Of the 36 species in the cat family, three (the leopard, the snow leopard and the clouded) leopard are what commonly refer to as leopard.

The black leopard is still leopard and has spots that are indiscernible in most conditions except for bright sunlight.

Although at first sight this leopard appears to be almost uniformly black, yet in a closer inspection it is seen to be furnished with usual pardine spots, which in certain lights are very evident.

It inhabits Brazil and Guiana, is a cruel and fierce animal, much dreaded by the Indians; but fortunately the species is not numerous.
