Family of Mustelidaeweasels: Weasels

Weasels live in every continent except Australia and Antarctica. There are about 10 species or types of weasel. The least weasel lives in Europe, Asia, and North America.

Weasels are predominantly species of temperate and subarctic forest and prairies; however, several species occur in semiarid woodlands and grasslands, some occurs in desert.

The long tail weasel is common in North America and South America. The ermine (Mustela erminea), known as the short-tailed weasel in North America and stoat in Great Britain, has a wide distribution in the Northern Hemisphere.

In North America, it is found throughout Alaska and all of Canada except parts of the prairies. Weasels have very long, thin bodies. The neck is long and flexible. Weasels usually have brown fur. Some species turn white during winter.
