The wolverine is a mammal of the family Mustelidae, which also includes weasels, otters, skunks, martens and fisher.
Like its relative the skunk, the wolverine can give off an unpleasant smell.
It is sometime called a skunk bear. It is scientific name is Gulo gulo. Other names by which the wolverine has been known include devil bear, woods devil and carcajou (in French)
It looks somewhat like a bear, but its behavior is definitely mustelid. Remarkably strong and ferocious for its size, it can take down reindeer and caribou, but will scavenge carrion if it is available.
The wolverine is found mostly in the northern parts of North America, Europe and Asia. It is known for its great strength and big appetite. The Eurasian distribution extends from Scandinavia across Siberia to the Bering and Chukchi seas.
